FAQs
Why Nikki Rose?
With my big smile and can-do attitude, I capture your day for how it is, blending into the background and letting you enjoy it as newlyweds because after all it is your day, not a photo shoot. And I love allowing guests and loved ones to put their phones down and be in the moment, not experience it from behind the screen of a phone or tablet.
Are you able to travel interstate/overseas?
Yes! I love to travel and am thrilled to when I get the opportunity to work in foreign places just as much as shooting down the street in Wollongong. Growing up in the country, I'm used to travelling and with my passport ready, I'm willing to go anywhere. I've captured weddings in Thailand, Bali and throughout New South Wales. For the Destination Weddings, I unfortunately do need you to cover some of our travel costs but I do have special rates to make it much more affordable.
Is it just you taking our photographs and/or filming on the day?
Yep, just me. There's no entourage chasing you around all day, harping and shuffling you into poses. This is to ensure that I blend into the background, allowing your day to unfold with absolute enjoyment - not massive gear ruining the atmosphere. After all, it is your wedding day, not a photo shoot.
I generally use battery powered lights during the speeches and first dance as the later the night is, the darker the lighting becomes. When I'm using an assistant, they're not necessarily holding a camera, just helping me such as minding my gear, moving lights, and wrangling cars.
How do you feel about same-sex marriage?
I believe for anyone in love to have the right to get married, regardless of sex. If you love each other, that’s all that matters to me.
Will we meet before the big day?
Absolutely! I offer a complimentary mini-session in all my wedding packages as we can go though the questionnaire so I know your ins and outs of your day as well as get to know you better. I want to ensure we all gel and that you both feel comfortable with me on your day.
We don’t like posing! Will that be a problem?
Most definitely not! I encourage you to be you on the day. I'll give basic direction to maximise the beauty of the shot such as manipulating the light to fall magically on you both. I capture honest moments throughout the day, laughing, crying, getting jiggy on the dance floor!
What do we get afterwards?
It is completely dependent on your package so shoot me a message so I can send you my tailored session information packs. Please note, I don't release any RAW files or footage from your day. Photography and videography alike, you shoot 10 frames of the same shot to make sure you get the one perfect image. Also for video, any shot that didn't make it into the final version is because a similar shot was already used or a technical issue occurred within the filming.
What kind of post processing do you do?
I'm a traditionalist and I don't like to edit my photos severely since I personally don't like photos that look fake, heavily retouched or heavily filtered. I want to capture honest moments, and I want to capture your day honestly. All my post processing work involves is lightly affecting the colour palette, sharpening, and adjusting the contrast and exposure. But never fear, if you have a pesky pimple, I'll get rid of it for you! All my images will come in colour and a selection of black and white versions that really shine as those versions rather than their colour counterparts.
For video, I edit all the important and beautiful moments to express your day in an engaging and cinematic way. I don't use tacky transitions or filters, again I keep it as natural as possible. I also overlay the vision with audio grabs from the ceremony or speech to further personalise your video.
Do you scout for locations before the wedding?
Of course I do! I like to be fully prepared and have a location picked out beforehand so I can include that in time we have for photos if we have to travel to it. I can do this solo or we can go together, whatever suits you. In saying that, on the day, everything can and will change, so being flexible is key and can allow magical little moments to blossom unexpectedly.
Do we need to feed you on the day?
Yes please! All day photography and cinematography takes a tonne of energy, so if you could cater for myself (and my assistant) that would be greatly appreciated!
What if we decide on the day that we'd like you to stay longer than anticipated?
That’s fine; I can stay as long as you want, it will just incur an extra $200 fee per hour for both myself (and my assistant).
Do we need to provide you with anything before the day?
Yes! I do need a running sheet for the day with important phone numbers and addresses. I also recommend to my clients creating a list of family portraits you would like taken and for one of the bridal party to be in charge of organising this on the day. As we have just met your entire family and friends, it is hard for us to notice if an aunt or uncle is missing. So if you organise someone to be in charge with a list, no one will be missed. If you don't do this, I cannot ensure you that we will capture all family portraits.
What happens if it rains on the wedding day?
Then we get out there with umbrellas! Some amazing pictures and gorgeous moments have come out of celebrations with less than ideal weather… I won’t let it stand in my way.
What time of day should we get married and have our portraits?
You want to look your best and unfortunately not all hours of the day are great! It's best to avoid the middle of the day (approximately 11am-3pm) as the sun is directly overhead which causes unflattering shadows and highlights and everyone is squinting. So try to aim after this time where the sun is lower especially for your portrait session. The golden hour (last light before sunset) is prime time! Again this is only a guide and I'll always make it work.
How soon will we receive the film/photo collection?
You can expect your photos and/or video to appear online and your photo collection on your doorstep within 12 weeks of the big day. You can share the link of your film or your photos on Facebook and via email so all your friends and family can enjoy your special day all over again from the comfort of their very own home.
How do we lock in a booking?
After we chat and discuss the finer details of your wedding and your ready to book with me, I'll send you out the paperwork for you to read through and sign, along with my bank details and a $250 non-refundable deposit. The final payments are due the day before the wedding.
Once we've booked, do we speak to you much before the wedding?
Of course! I'm always available to chat and help you with any concerns or ideas you have (I love Pinterest). I stay in touch with my clients in the lead up to and after the wedding day to build this connection and bond that helps you to feel comfortable with me. This in turns helps create beautiful and natural photos and films.
